A Case Report of Brain Injury for Development of Communication Rehabilitation Industry Program in an Aging Society

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: In order to collect basic data for the development of communication rehabilitation program, we tried to objectively evaluate oral movement and coordination ability by using Multi-speech 3700 program for brain injured patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of communication rehabilitation program to improve movement range, speed and coordination ability of articulation organ by evaluating speech motor ability.
Method: 10 brain injury patients and 10 normal subjects were evaluated for the speech intelligibility which affects communication efficiency. The rate, articulation time, and pause duration of the diadochokinesis were analyzed on the spectrogram using the Multi-speech program(model 3700).
Result: Rate, pause time, and articulation time of alternating motion rate tasks had a major effect on disorders, but no interaction between consonants and disorders. In addition, the rate of sequential motion rate were lower in the patient with brain injury than in the normal group, and the pause time and articulation time were longer than the normal group. There was a significant correlation between the rate of sequential motion rate, the rate of alternating motion rate, the pause time, and the articulation time.
Conclusion: This study showed that communication is related to movement range, speed and coordination ability of articulation organ. The results of this study will be useful as basic data for developing serious games and communication devices for communication rehabilitation of older elderly or stroke patients with physical weakness due to aging.
